Choosing the right home security company

Choosing the right company to install your home security system is pivotal in protecting your home. Make sure you shop around and don’t simply go for the first one that appears in the search engine or yellow pages.  To establish the best offer from a reputable firm will require a little bit of research on your behalf.  Obtain written quotations from at least three home security firms.

  • All quotes you receive should comply with British Standard 4737, wireless systems should comply with British Standard 6799 or the European Standard EN50131-1
  • You should ensure that company who is installing your alarm have legitimate credentials.  All representatives of the company should have proof of identity.
  • Check to see whether the contract includes a 24 hour call out facility and attendance from security firm or call to the Police
  • Police will only respond if the type A alarm has been fitted by a company that has been inspected by one of the 4 independent Inspectorate organisations.

The four Inspectorates are:

  • Integrity 2000
  • Alarm Inspectorate Security Council (AISC)
  • National Approval Council for Security Systems (NACOSS)
  • Security Systems and Alarm Inspection Board (SSAIB),

Before you commit and sign the installation contract with the firm ensure you read it and check the fine print thoroughly first.  Check to see whether you will own system or just renting it and whether maintenance of system is included.
